Congrats to Gabby Morgan (Lewis and Clark) and Astraea Moore (Northwest MS) on signing letters of intent. To watch these young ladies grow up from 9th graders and have the priviledge of being there as they continue their basketball dreams is an honor. The Lady Mambas are extremely proud of their achievements.
Southaven/Lady Mambas Gabby Morgan (2016) and Erica Jones (2017) received Scholar Athlete of the Month awards. Gabby Morgan was Scholar Athlete of the Month (December) and Erica Jones was Scholar Athlete of the Month (November). The Lady Mambas are extremely proud of these young ladies efforts in the classroom and on the court.
Gabby Morgan (2016) Southaven(MS) highlights from the beginning of the 2015-16 basketball season. Gabby is a defensive first player with a high motor; an aggressive on ball defender with a solid mid range pull up jumper.
Week 1 match-up between UConn and Tennessee showcased the experience of the UConn squad vs the youth and energy of the Tennessee team. UConn’s jumped out to the early lead; scoring off the opening tip and used its numerous weapons to build a lead and not lett it go. The UConn team is fun to watch; they always seem to be talking, high-fiving, laughing and simply enjoying the game. They share the ball very well and at any given moment its a different person that’s a major threat on the team. Gabby Morgan (5 steals) is clearly the vocal leader and a nightmare on the defensive end, Emily Evans (3 steals) is everywhere on defense and causes just as much havoc as Gabby. Zaire Hicks (14 points) and Poohdie Johnson (9 points) will knife through a defense with dribble penetration and knock down shots from the outside. The biggest presence this week was Erica Jones (13 points, 5 blks) she showed the ability to score from the elbow and the post as well as block and alter multiple shots on the other end. The entire team is dangerous and will be fun to watch all league. For the Tennessee team Brittni Moore (11 points, 9 rebs), last years leading scorer and rebounder, came back even more effective than last season adding a more developed jumper. Lindsey Vaughn (12 points) was knocking down shots from everywhere; defenders better stay on her like glue and the Craigmont freshman Akeria James (5 points) put on a ball handling display showing that she is ready for the high school season.
Canzis Echols (Kingsbury), Taya Banks (Kingsbury) & Gabby Morgan (Southaven) all played their last game in a Mambas jersey in Atlanta. It’s rough seeing these players leave but we know they will move on to the next level. This was Canzis and Taya first summer as a Mamba and appreciate them joining our family. Gabby Morgan is a three year veteran with the Mambas and we are so proud of her growth as a player and a person.
Our other rising seniors: Courtney Banks (Desoto Central), Astraea Moore (Southaven), Kyla Taylor (Munford) Gabby Moore (Memphis Catholic).
Danielle Conley (Craigmont) and Breanna Beason (Sheffield),
Gabby Morgan (2016) is a long armed shooting guard from Southaven (MS) High School and a terror on the defensive end of the court. Her ball skills are better than most NFL cornerbacks; she is always tracking the ball whether its in the passing lanes or harassing a ball handler. Every time she is on the court she creates five or six extra offensive possessions just by disrupting the other teams flow. Gabby is a ” One Man Press” and will make consistently make the other team’s ball handlers uncomfortable. She also has an uncanny knack for getting offensive rebounds. You usually dont find guards who get five or six offensive rebounds per game but she does it routinely. She brings impact to the game in a multitude of ways: deadly spot up shooter, always makes the extra pass, and is a vocal leader. Gabby will be a productive member of any collegiate team and anytime she is on the court she will create multiple extra opportunities for her teammates.
