Ashtyn Baker Video Evaluation – Brandon Clay

Ashtyn Baker (2017- Northpoint) from Southaven, MS has been raising her stock all summer. Although she only stands around 5’5 she plays with a grit and toughness well above her size. A high energy point guard that loves to push the tempo and can run a team. Brandon Clay recently did a video evaluation of Ashtyn thats available here on her promotion page. Also be sure to check out Ashtyn as she leads her Notre Dame team in the Patosha Jeffery Fall Exposure League

Patosha Jeffery 2015 Maryland vs Baylor Week 1 Video

Week 1 game featuring super freshman Jayla Hemingway‘s Maryland team vs the dynamic duo of Taylor Lattimore and Ty Metcalf led Baylor team. The game starts off with Jayla (11 points) imposing her will against the smaller Baylor team and with the help of skilled forward Tamia Jones (10 points, 9 rebs) jumped out to the earlier lead. Baylor shook off the early nerves and sparked by their high energy defense and team speed were off and running in transition scoring points in bunches. Taylor Lattimore finished with 17 points, league’s highest scorer began to penetrate to the hoop with ease and show off her athleticism with a few speculator finishes in traffic combined with Ty Metcalf (9 points) breaking the defense with her great vision and speed.  Jerhonise Rollins showed her versatility with 3 blocked shots and a nice coast-to-coast finish. Laurissa Campbell showed tremendous improvement from last year’s Fall league as she was aggressive on both ends of the court finishing with 6 points, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

3. Rodrea Echols/Overton – 15

10. Charity Savage/Bartlett – 9
10. Gabby Crawford/Munford – 9
10. Jireh Washington/Central – 9
10. Gazmyne Herndon/Douglass – 9

Week 1 had plenty of impressive performances but definitely the most exciting was the back and forth battle between Jamirah Shutes (2018- Haywood) and Jayla Hemingway (2019- Houston) were both players each tried to will their respective team to victory. Both players are strong physically guards that can finish with either hand and are competitive to the final buzzer. Jamirah’s Sky team win the tightly contested game but this is a match up we will be watching for years to come. Marie Hunter (Marion) was this week’s leading scorer as her Lynx team ran away in a blow out. Courtney Banks was impressive with a double-double despite between double and triple teamed the majority of the game. Courtney’s Mercury team was outmatched by the strong play of the Dream’s Myah Taylor, Damiah Griffin & Gazmyne Herndon. In the final game Rodrea Echols showed why her stock is so high literally playing every position and contributing in every aspect of the game; however, the three point shooting of the Fever’s Dee Dee Williams, Jireh Washington & Shaela Gardner was just too much as they cruised to victory.

A few underrated players that are poised to make a big name for themselves in this talent-laden league; here are a couple of this week’s players to watch for:

Players to watch for

  1. Catlyn Wilson (2019- Arlington) showed tremendous poise late in a tight game and played solid off-the-ball defense
  2. Alayjah Sherer (Tupelo) athletic, versatile wing that has been raising her stock all summer and can defend multiple positions
  3. Johnna Jones (2017- Munford) maybe the best on-ball defender in Memphis and has added a catch and shoot three point shot
  4. Kayla Freeman (2018- East) wiry guard that penetrates gaps consistently; always has her head up to make the quick dump off pass in the lane
  5. Madison Griggs (2019- Houston) for those that thought the transition from middle to high school was going to be difficult she is making it look easy..she can flat out handle the ball and knocks down open shots. Its scary to think she is only a freshman, area high school coaches will have to deal with her for four years..look for her to make a name early this school season
